About Me…
Brittany Ruhmann is a Houston-based pianist and teacher. She maintains an active teaching studio in Pearland, TX and is on faculty at the Music Academy of Houston in Westchase. She has played the piano since she was five years old, and has been teaching since she was nineteen. Her passion for and knowledge of the instrument and music-making has only deepened, and her primary joy is sharing it with others.
Brittany grew up in Dallas, Texas and moved to Houston to further her music education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance as well as a Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Houston. She spent six years studying with esteemed pianist and pedagogue Nancy Weems, among others, graduated magna cum laude, and is a member of the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.
As a member of two local music teachers associations and Texas Music Teacher’s Association, Brittany is an active member of the Houston musical community and her students have many opportunities to participate in festivals, competitions, and other events. She prides herself on teaching that is well-rounded and detail-oriented. She guides her students through a mastery of technical, theoretical, and artistic concepts while maintaining a fun, vivacious atmosphere. Brittany fosters a genuine connection and rapport with each of her individual students.
As a performer and accompanist, Brittany has played with numerous choirs, instrumentalists, and singers. She is easy-going and well-prepared, and enjoys collaborating with other musicians. Brittany has played for many different kinds of events, including but not limited to weddings, concerts, solo and ensemble, and UIL contests.
Brittany also has a background in preschool music and has taught classes for children ages two through five in many different settings. She is very familiar with the unique effort that comes from entertaining little ones with a short attention span.
